The Sword is a weapon carried by the officers in all of the Civil War levels. It is not usable by the player. The officers will use it when they are in melee range, but other than that they only carry it.
- In real life, there were different patterns of sword to indicate the arm of service (like Infantry, Cavalry, or Artillery) of the user. Cavalry troopers were issued a saber to use from horseback.
- The quality of the sword indicated the rank (Non-Commissioned Officer, Officer, or General Officer) of the person carrying it. Confederate officers (and Union officers who had the means) usually carried high-grade swords that they had privately purchased.
- Swords were usually carried as a symbol of office rather than a weapon and were rather ineffective in combat. Cavalrymen who were to be deployed as mounted infantry usually left their swords at camp.
